About this test

The temperament test sorts your natural style into the oldest personality framework in the world: the four temperaments. The idea dates back to classical medicine — Hippocrates and later Galen described four characteristic patterns of energy and emotion — and the version that survived into modern use is a behavioural one: sanguine (warm and lively), choleric (driven and decisive), melancholic (thoughtful and deep) and phlegmatic (calm and steady).

This test asks 24 everyday questions — how you enter a room, handle a deadline, argue, recharge — and adds up which temperament your answers point to most often. It also shows your second-strongest temperament, because most people are a blend: the headline temperament with a strong secondary flavour.

Who is it for? Anyone curious about their default settings: why some of us organise the group, some energise it, some analyse it, and some quietly hold it together. It is a mirror for self-reflection and a genuinely useful lens for understanding the people you live and work with — not a clinical instrument, and it does not try to be one.

How scoring works

Each of the 24 questions offers four answers, one written for each temperament. Behind the scenes, every answer you pick adds one point to its temperament. There are no right or wrong answers and no answer is 'better' — the four styles are equals with different strengths.

At the end, your points are tallied and shown as a percentage split across all four temperaments. The highest score is your primary temperament, and the second-highest is shown as your blend — the influence that keeps real people from being caricatures. If two temperaments tie at the top, the test names the one whose questions you answered most consistently across the whole set, and your result page will show the tie in the breakdown.

The result types

Sanguine

You are the person who makes a room warmer just by entering it. Sanguines are expressive, curious and quick to connect: you collect people and experiences the way others collect stamps, and your optimism is usually contagious. Deadlines and details may not be your religion, but energy is — and groups quietly run on the energy you bring.

Choleric

You are built for momentum. Cholerics see the goal, organise the route and start moving while others are still discussing whether to go. You value competence, honesty and results, and you would rather make a good decision now than a perfect one eventually. People may call you intense; they also call you when something actually needs to get done.

Melancholic

You notice what others walk past. Melancholics are the analysts and feelers of the four temperaments: careful, loyal and quietly intense, with a high bar for quality and a low tolerance for shallowness. Small talk drains you; a real conversation about something that matters can fuel you for days. Your inner life is not a retreat from the world — it is where you do your best work.

Phlegmatic

You are the calm in most rooms you enter. Phlegmatics are steady, patient and quietly funny, with a gift for not making things worse. Where others escalate, you absorb; where others panic, you keep the rhythm. People lean on you more than you realise — and they underestimate you just as often, because your strength rarely announces itself.

Frequently asked questions

How accurate is this temperament test?

It is a well-built self-reflection tool, not a clinical measurement. The four-temperaments model is a classical framework rather than a modern validated scale, so treat your result as a good description of your tendencies — most people recognise themselves immediately — rather than a scientific verdict. Answering honestly, with your usual behaviour rather than your ideal behaviour, makes the result noticeably sharper.

Can I be more than one temperament?

Yes — almost everyone is a blend. Your result names your strongest temperament and shows your full percentage split, including your runner-up. A sanguine-phlegmatic and a sanguine-choleric are both 'sanguine first', but they feel quite different to live with, which is exactly why the blend is shown.

Is this a medical or psychological diagnosis?

No. This test is for entertainment and self-reflection only. Temperament is a way of describing everyday style — energy, pace, sociability — not a diagnosis of anything, and no result here should be used for medical, psychological or employment decisions.

Are my answers private?

Completely. The test runs entirely in your browser: your answers are never sent to a server, never stored in an account and never shared. Closing the tab clears everything. Our privacy page explains this in full.

Why did I get a different result than on another site?

Different sites write different questions and weight them differently, and your own answers shift with mood, age and life stage — temperament expression genuinely changes over time. If the result feels wrong, retake it answering as you usually are on an ordinary week, not as you were on your best or worst day.

What should I do with my result?

Use it as a lens, not a label. Read the strengths and watch-outs for your type, notice which ones your friends would confirm, and try one of the growth suggestions for a week. The result is most useful in conversation — comparing temperaments with family or colleagues explains a surprising amount of everyday friction.
